This garden studio was designed as a workspace and spare bedroom for the family. We worked closely with the owner through the design process, developing her ideas into a classic mini-Queenslander style that sits comfortably alongside the 125-year-old main house. Proportion did most of the work. Roof pitch, ceiling height and the placement of the openings were all drawn from the original cottage, the studio feels as though it has always been part of the property.

A silk oak tree on the site sat too close to the studio footprint to stay, rather than send it away as waste, Shelter Arc Build milled it offsite with a Lucas Mill and put it back into the building through the finishing joinery – a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf, shelving, and a custom desk we made for the owner which we gifted on handover.
